We all have a fantasy of decorating your home with a thriving selection of house plants.
Aside from adding a chic, jungly touch, they have many other benefits, from purifying the air to boosting wellbeing with therapeutic watering.
But surely nothing is more detrimental to one’s wellbeing than watching the inexplicable slow decline of your plants as you (literally) drown them with your love and well-meaning ministrations?

How to style your house plants

Bathrooms
Plants in bathrooms are great as plants soften the hard edges of sanitaryware and tiles. Bathrooms are also humid, which lots of house plants like, particularly ferns.

Kitchen shelves and counters
Placing plants around on kitchen shelves and counters works well for decorating spare spaces. Also, plants in the kitchen tend to get noticed and therefore cared for as your potter about. Try herbs to be handy for cooking or filling a shelf nook with a trailing plant.

Get to know your plants - you can’t put any plant anywhere. Some of them like lots of light or lots of humidity etc. Check the species online before putting a fern above a radiator or a money tree in a dark corner.

When watering, remove your plant from the planter and place in the sink before watering according to care advice for that species. Once the dripping has stopped, pop it back in the planter.
